Casein Adhesives
Caseins are reliable and "green adhesives" for the labelling industry, with excellent washability of returnable bottles. Casein Adhesives doreduce foaming of the caustic solution where bottles are cleaned, the COD value in the water-waste, is sifnificant lower. The waste water has proven to have better sedimentation.
Casein glues
Casein adhesives are made from proteins extracted from skimmed milk. The special feature of casein adhesives is the very steep viscosity curve. When cooling down, the glue quickly thickens and when heated it quickly becomes much thinner. Of this property, the use of product labeling is particularly advantageous, by turning the glue warmly on the machine (30-40 degrees Celsius) and this cools quickly as a very thin layer on the label and the product. The result is a very large initial tack.
Where is casein even more used
Casein is an animal protein found in milk. Casein is extracted by diluting milk with water and then adding hydrochloric acid so that casein precipitates. Casein is also called cheese dust. It is applied in painting. Casein is dissolved in lime water or caustic soda to bind dye. Colors prepared in this way are resistant to weathering and are therefore particularly suitable for making murals on dry plaster. This method originated in the Middle Ages and had a high point in the ceiling paintings of the Baroque
